13 mOsm/kg for a 1 mL sample diluted with 59 mL of H2O
It’s important to maintain a low Osmolality rating when adding iron therapy or a multivitamin with iron for an infant, especially so with premature infants for risk of possibly causing electrolyte disturbances leading to dehydration. *
“Human milk is nutritionally better than formula milk for preterm infants. However, unfortified human milk may fail to meet the theoretical requirements of very low birth weight (VLBW). Human milk fortifier (HMF) increases the nutritional content of human milk. However, the important factor of concern in feeding VLBW is the osmolality, the higher the osmolality, the greater the risk of necrotizing entero colitis (NEC). Therefore, high osmolality in fortified human milk should be considered for this condition.” (1)
“Routine warming of breast milk with glucose polymer-containing additives, or the addition of lactase enzyme to lactose-containing feedings, can increase osmolality to levels that exceed current guidelines for premature infant feedings.” (2)

Kids love it now they wont have low iron
It's not easy finding the best form of iron for your little ones when they are very picky eaters. This liquid iron is good. True to what it is and my babes are getting what they need for good health. Most iron for toddlers out there aren't as great. For some children iron isn't so easy to absorb with the diet they have and all of the sugar that is found in most food that we eat. This helps and it's easy to give and it absorbs well.
This was our first time using Nova Ferrum, which was recommended by our Pediatrician as an iron supplement for our daughter. We have used different brands of liquid iron in the past, and have had difficulty getting her to tolerate the taste. We are so pleased that Nova Ferrum is flavored, dye free, sugar free, and our daughter takes it without difficulty! We have only tried the raspberry grape flavor, but see other flavor options listed on the site. We will be purchasing again as we will be needing to supplement for some time. We have just started using this product and hope we will continue to be pleased with this brand.
Must taste pretty good because this is the only one she'll drink.
Excellent product. Only iron supplement my child would take!
My girls (5 and 10 years old) will drink it in a variety of juices without complaining. I give it only four stars for two reasons: 1) We just found out that one of our daughters has a raspberry sensitivity/allergy. I have been trying to find out if the raspberry flavor in these iron drops is from real raspberry or a chemical compound. I have called and emailed them and no one seems to know the answer to my question - is there real raspberry in this product? 2) It's hard to find. They used to carry it a Walgreens near us, but now they don't have it in their stores anymore. And the other local pharmacies don't carry it either.
